« on: September 08, 2010 - 10:59:25 AM »
Im wondering if anyone but one in there car? I know Quick Time Performance makes a bell housing for a SB and 4l60 transmission. I just cant picture how it fits in the car. I have a used 4l60e thats sitting in my garage that came out of my 94 trans am that I plan to rebuild.

Worst swap for an OD in an E body in my opinion.

Amen. If you must use a GM OD trans, use a 4L80E.

May I ask why you say its the worst swap? Im not trying to start anything. The car isnt going to be a high horsepower monster just more a weekend cruiser.

All the "special" parts you need to do it. Cooler lines are on the wrong side. Converter is special, bellhousing is special.  If you need a bellhousing because you crack one...........  :money: or will they even sell you one by itself? If the converter goes bad or cracks/wears a hub, how much for one? They have you by the gonads because you HAVE to have one. If they want to charge you $1500 for a converter, you have to pay it or park the car. The flywheel is special. the list goes on and on.

What automatic overdrive transmission would you suggest? how easy are they to find? What would it usually cost to pick one up? parts needed to install?  the car it will be going in is has a 340. Reason i thought about the 4l60e is because I have a tranny and torque converter sitting in the garage waiting to go into something or to get rid of it.

Check out this article. FYI you can shave the transmission excess webbing instead of cutting the torsion bar cross member.
