LA with Solid cam and hydraulic lifter oil galleys
« on: March 29, 2010 - 12:30:40 AM »
Have a LA 360. Will be street driven.  Engine will have magnum heads with pushrod oiling.   Want to run solid lifter cam.  Can I leave the blocks hydraulic lifter galleys as-is, so oil can run up to the valve train?
Is there a recommended brand of the solid lifter?  Do certain solid lifters over-expose the blocks lifter galleys with the resulting large oil pressure loss?
Can I run the EDM type solid lifters for extra oil to the cam lobes, without loosing too much oil pressure?  Are these lifters necessary for cam lobe life and street use?  I'll be running the extra zinc additive in the oil.
Are the Ultradyne cams ok?  They offer more solid flat tappet street type 904 lobe durations than Lunati.

Can I leave the blocks hydraulic lifter galleys as-is, so oil can run up to the valve train? - yes, use AMC spec'd lifters
Is there a recommended brand of the solid lifter? I use the same brand as the cam, or whoever's EDM lifters.  Do certain solid lifters over-expose the blocks lifter galleys with the resulting large oil pressure loss? It's the lift and design of roller lifters, not the lifter alone, and solids dont have that problem
Can I run the EDM type solid lifters for extra oil to the cam lobes, without loosing too much oil pressure? The pressure loss will come more from loose lifter bores than 16 tiny holes.  Are these lifters necessary for cam lobe life and street use? Not until you get really fast on the rate of lift or high on the total lift and require springs over 450lbs over the nose.
Are the Ultradyne cams ok? Very good, as a matter of fact. As are Bullet, which is Harold that founded Ultradyne decades ago

Harold with UltraDyne is now working with Lunati
if you go the th rear of the Catalog they have a cam lobe spec for the 906 lifter where you can select the lobe you want & have the cam ground using the original UltraDyne lobes
