Challenger Suspension Diagram?
« on: March 21, 2010 - 03:45:41 PM »
Hey all,

I'm glad I found this forum, looks like I will be glued here for many years to come  :)

I have a 74 Challenger that I bought about 8 years ago and finally am getting to the point of restoring. The car was completely stripped when I bought it with all the parts in boxes. Good news is it has saved me a lot of labor but unfortunately I have no clue where to begin. I think my first step is going to be to get the suspension on so I can roll it.

Is there a good suspension diagram for the front and rear out there? Or even a good write up on the install? I did some searching but could not find anything complete (sorry if it is out there and I just missed it!). Also if there are any good "must have" manuals out there that would be a huge help as well.

Any help or advice you can provide will be a great help.

Thanks,

Jeff

Jeff-
I really like the service manuals.  They’re the same books that the mechanics used back in the day.  A quick search many vendors carrying the manual on CD.  I prefer hardcopy documents.  Amazon.Com carries the hardcopy manuals.

1974 DODGE Body and Chassis Shop Service Repair Manual [eb833N] = $98
http://www.amazon.com/Chassis-Service-Repair-Manual-eb833N/dp/B0007REYJ4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=miscellaneous&qid=1269203216&sr=8-2-catcorr

Description: This manual covers the body, chassis, mechanical and electrical. Published by the factory, for their mechanics, this is the most detailed book produced for the chassis of these vehicles. Text, usually accompanied by diagrams or illustrations, explains how to disassemble, repair and reassemble the various components and frequently gives troubleshooting information. This manual includes wiring diagrams.

Note: the 1971 manuals are two separate books.  One covers chassis the other body.
I find them invaluable while working.  Lots of pics/diagrams and step by step procedures.

The manual doesn’t cover the part about busting knuckles, bleeding, and cursing.  For more info on that, just write back to the forum  :roflsmiley:
Hope this helps,
Ron

Beyond getting the shop manual, there is a book entitled "Performance Handling for Classic Mopars" by Tom Condran.  It has a lot of tips for the do it yourselfer regarding how to do things and what parts to use, etc.  It breaks things down by car line.

Thanks for the welcome and the advice guys.

brads70: I will definitely post an intro - just want to get an updated pic of the challenger before I post out there. I'm here in Atlanta GA!

I'm looking forward to get started and I will make sure to check out both of those books (I know I will need them!)

Thanks,

Jeff

I have the CD version of the manuals for my car/year. They are very helpfull! But I think the printed version would be better! quicker to find stuff! CD was onlt 20 bucks I think though?
