Voltage regulator and starter relay aren't quite related to the ignition circuit. Regular is kinda tied in there, but shouldn't affect your spark. Check power to the coil when cranking? Could be a faulty ballast resistor. Points or electronic ignition?

With the key in the start postion it shows 5.5 volts.I didn't check it while it starts, what should the voltage be?Also how do you tell if the ballast is no good I did remove it and then renstall it.It's been one thing after another with this car. Thanks Chris

Well, it is a 37 year old car.
Check the ecu, or better yet get a new one. My Challenger did the same thing, it started with the resistor, then the coil, then the ecu then the bulkhed disconnect then the ammeter and so on and so on
Keep at it and you shall have success :2thumbs:

5.5 sounds about right with the key on, when 'cranking' it should be 11v+ at the coil. Be sure to check it while cranking.

Make sure the ECU has a good ground at the mounting bolts.   A new one can found at a local parts store for like $20 or so.

Check out this article, good read for a dead car:

Thanks for the advice guys.I am starting to find out thtat everytime I fix one thing something else takes a ****!!! I have a stock set up in this car.I went looking for spare parts in the garage the other day.So far I've come up with a ballast,a ground wire for the firewall ,and if I don't find the ecu I will go out and buy one.I am going to first install the ballast since I had touched that and a couple of other things and the car would'nt start. And install the ground wire and try to start it if that does'nt work I will replace the ecu like you guys suggested hopefully this will work. thanks I will let you know how it works out!!
