rear end questions for a 71 Cuda
« on: April 02, 2010 - 02:11:24 AM »
Hello
I am finally getting the 71 Cuda conv back from body shop, and I have a question about rear ends. The car came completely disassembled, with two e body rear, 8.3/4 style. Is there any VIN number stamped on them , so can use the correct one for my car? One is a 3.23, other is 2.76. Is there any Cuda with a factory 2.76 rear?
I will be driving my Cuda a lot, and a 2.76 would be better on the highway. Is the stock 383 enough for such a long ratio?
Thank you for the help
Antonello

I dont know about the vin stamped carrier but standard gears for a 'Cuda were 3.23:1
I do not think the carrier or center section has a vin on it but I could very well be wrong.

Danas had a # stamped on the tube , I do not recall ever seeing a # stamped on an 8 3/4
2.76 will work great with a 383 , you won't have much bottom end but it will have legs from 30 MPH up
