Dying For A Peek Of An Alleged AAR
« on: October 22, 2004 - 04:40:57 PM »
Time to post again,

A coworker I've known for about 9 years, has a 1970 AAR Cuda he's owned since the late 70's. He took it off the road in the early 80's & it's been sitting in his garage ever since. As far as I know it's complete & mostly original, but partially disassembled. He said it has some rust, but I haven't seen it myself to determine how badly. He talks about the car occasionally & how he might fix it one day, or even how he may part it out instead of selling it, because the parts are worth so much more than a project car.  ::)

I don't think he realizes how valuable the car is the way it sits. It has the original 340-6 Pak drive train, it's a complete car that's been untouched for 25 years. I don't see him regularly, but when I do see him, I always ask him if he did anything with it yet. I told him he should never part it out, & if anything, sell it as a project. I had told him I was interested if he decided to sell, & to please keep me in mind. Of course, the prices on these cars have escalated from when I first met him. Back then I could've scraped the cash together to buy it, but now I don't think so. Besides, I'm buried in projects already.

I'm hoping to find an excuse one of these days to be in his neighborhood. If I can, I'll tell him I'd like to see his car if he's home. It's at least worth buying the beer & talking Mopars to snap a picture of it. You never know, I may have it timed just right, like when he decides he's sick of squeezing his lawnmower past it every weekend in the garage. I always liked the 71's better, but to own an AAR would be sweet, & I could live with just 2 headlights instead of 4. If he does offer it, I think I'd part with my Scamp to get it, but not my '71 Barracuda.

Throw some money at him!!  Hundred dollar bills work really well!!  If you see it and think its decent and don't want to or can't buy it . . . let me know!!  I'd like an AAR too!  ;)   ;D

I think all of us have one of these stories...I know of a Superbird stored within 2 miles of my house that I've been trying to buy for over 10 years....in that time the car has not moved an inch and NO work has been done either....but the guy won't get off of it. I;'ve offered him some pretty big $$, but he swears he's going to restore this car some day. It's a #'s match, 440-6 4 speed yellow bird. Don't give up on him, just stay in touch and let him know that you are willing to buy it when he decides to sell. Often if you push these type guys too much, you'll alienate them and you will be out of the picture. Another car I was trying to buy was a 70 B'cuda convert, 340 4 speed....i worked on that guy for 5 years....then one day....BOOM...car is in the local paper...i call him up, he tells me car was sold to first caller...about 2 hrs B4 I called....Now this guy swore to me up and down I'd get first shot at this car...I ask him why he sold it in the paper instead of calling me?  He says he "forgot " to call me..... >:(  Here's the worst part...car sold for $4K...about 2 years ago. Complete car with #'s drivetrain needing a resto.
