Seeping oil from aluminum mopar valve covers

Thanks guys.  No, its definitely seeping through the sideof the cover.  I can watch it form a drop and then the drop runs.

  With the rocker cover off and clean, turn it on its side with the leaking side down, pour in a small amount of gas over the inside area where it may be leaking, if it is porous you will see it. Depending what you find you may be able to repair or use a quality paint like Hemiken suggested.

OK, found some info.....

You can look up and find the properties with either "GLYPTAL PAINT" or "GE Glyptol electric motor paint" may be the same thing good luck.

I may have to live with the seepage unless I can find a less pricey alternative. Or just spring for brand new covers.....grrrrrrrrrr.

There may be another solution, i am pretty sure that a product called VHT actually make a spray bomb for this exact application, you could do a search but again i do not know what they would call the paint ? sorry.

I had a similar leak with those aluminum valve covers.  Upon very close inspection, it turned out to be a hairline crack.  They were brand new and tried to return them to Mopar Performance.  They basically said too bad; no return.  I used JB Weld on the crack and the leak stopped.

Find a different source for the stuff as I`m sure eastwood marks it up.Your local auto parts might be able to get it for you.

Ok, resurrecting this old thread yet again just to update.

I did my first oil change on the fish and all went well,  and I was feeling industrious....

 

........so I took the leaking valve cover off to investigate the annoying seepage again.

Turns out that there are two hairline cracks, each about a half inch long.....if I held it up to a light, one I could see some light thru, the other not....so I degreased and cleaned , then roughed it up and then used a product called "Q Bond".  its this powder you put on the area needing repair and then add drops of what is basically super glue.  This stuff dries rock hard and very strong from what I can see.....we'll see how it holds up...the best part is that it was dry and ready to reinstall in 10 minutes.  I reassembled but am going to let it sit til tomorrow evening before firing her up.

We'll see I guess.

Well that makes me feel better for sure.....I wasnt sure when I bought it.....the demo stuff they have for it is impressive, but it was like $18 for two tubes of super glue and two tubes of "magic powder".....LOL......I was skeptical at first but the guy at NAPA swore by it....so I bought it "just in case"....didnt have anything in mind at the time to repair with it.....

It claims to be heat resistant up to like 385 degrees, oil resistant, blah blah blah.....what sold me is how fast the guy said it would set up.  JB Weld has saved my butt a few times, but it takes forever to set up.

I will definately post after I run it and then longer term results.  If $18 can save me $100 (for a new cover) I am all for it!
