I understand that the 70 Mirror for Challenger is different than 72 mirror (which I have one of).  How much different?  Does anyone reporoduce the 70 mirror?  Its a chrome mirror that I need (and the 72 is also chrome).  How hard is it to get apart to rechrome?  Thanks.  I didn't think I woudl have so many questions about a mirror.

   Hey, we have all been there, or done that(usually). The 70 mirror is a tough one to find and will usually cost alot. It has the same bolt pattern as the 72, but it has a shorter base, so you may want to keep that 72 unless you are going for "all correct". Believe it or not, rechroming isn't too cheap either :P nu-chrome.com did my mirrors. $150 a pop was what I paid. They did a great job :D

K, add another question into the mix, is the rest of the mirror the same, reason I ask is that somewhere in my hunting for parts I've seen repro basses for the 70 mirrors, maybe a little grafting could save some bucks??? no quote here, coulda been yr 1 or maybe on ebay, sorry i didn't pay more attention but my cars are the long base!!! Rich.

Since they will attach with the same holes, I can use the 72 until I find a better replacement then.  And thats a good question on the bases.  I thought I read someone had reproduced the bases.

I've attached some photos for you to see.


1st photo is of some 1970 E-Body Racing mirrors.

2nd photos are of 1971-74 E-Body Racing Mirrors.


VERY hard to spot, but look carefully and you'll see the 71-74's are a little smaller, basically the same shape where as the 1970 mirrors are totally different on either side and last but not least the 71-74's are a little squarer which I think is weird as like the cars they started "rounding" off as the years went on but the mirros went in the other direction. 1970 Challenger "sqaure'ish" shape but with rounder mirrors compared to 73 Challenger rounder body but squarer mirrors.  ;)

The 70 mirror does have the smaller base. I saw a repro base in Mopar Collectors Guide. You can use an A-body racing mirror head, it is the same size as a 70 E-body.

Thanks all.  I am going to pick up a Challenger project next week.  It will be a very ambitious restoration (collision more than rust), but I think I can pull it off.  Once it is home, I will post some pics and my game plan.

I just bought a set of 70 mirrors for my cuda.. just to give you an idea i paid $400 for them, painted ready to go on.
70 cuda, 440, KB pistons, 10.5:1 compression, edlebrock heads,RacerBrown cam, 5-Speed Tremec, Megasquirt EFI

on the left mirror swaping bases is very difficult to do , the remote cable have to be disconnected form the Joy stick & this is die cast metal so re-staking the cables in can be difficult to impossible is the cheap die cast meatl breaks , it usually will
