Carb floods after big burnout
« on: March 18, 2010 - 08:29:19 AM »
After a big burnout then the tires grip the car feels like it is flooded.  Am I sending to much fuel to the carb and the sudden grip of the tires causing the flooding? It picks back up after a few seconds.

Check the float to see if it is leaking or sinking, check the needle valve and check the float level.

This bog is the response of the engine to the sudden loading of the engine, after being allowed to spin freely. If you close the throttle when this happens, it will be worse (even leading to a stall). When the air and fuel demands change suddenly like this, the usual response is a stumble, or bog. This is nrmal, but frustrating. You might also have the carb a little rich, which will exacerbate the issue.

I will check the float level again and might go to a stiffer secondary spring. Thanks

weird , a mech fuel pump should not lose pressure unless the fuel pump push rod is wearing down so that would be the first thing I would be checking

I'm gonna bypass the gauge and check all the hoses, lines. Then the pushrod if need be. How hard is it to change the rod ?

relatively easy , just remove the pump & there is a small pipe plug below the pump hole in the block , remove that & the rod will slide out
