    4 Crate 426 hemi's - HELP

    My dad and I have gotten word where there might be 4 yes 4 hemi's(just engine)... and the person "will sell for the right price"    Now we think they are 426, original 70 or 71 blocks but could be 392 hemis, dad doesnt want any 392's so... We bought a 440 but never dealt will real hemi's (never fired still in the crate)...

         We dont know what to offer the person... we not looking to rip her off, what are these engines selling for on the market? what should we offer per engine or for the set(4) ???? all figures really would help...

    PS...If they turn out to be 392's , is anyone interested in buying these... ???? just for thought... this person knows what they have and is looking to sell to people wanting to use the engines not to turn a profit...

    lemon71fish, the only wuestion i have is are the motors complete and ready to run or are they just the blocks?

    depends on what is there.
    a fully dressed 426 with intake, exhaust manifolds decent valve covers carbs aircleaner distributor brakets decent oil pan linkages and what ever else is probably a 2-4k + item a block less than a grand.

    These motors are like replacement blocks from the factory, never fired, we know they are either 426 hemi engines or 392's ... not sure if they are carb to oil pan complete, short blocks or empty  blocks...

    hoping complete engines but if not...??? have yet to find out...

    carb to intake -$ 5,000+
    short block - $2000 - 4000
    block - $ 1000     

    is that ball park figures to go by???

    Of course, you are going to want to start off with a lower offer, and work your way up...

    BTW - What happened with that 71 440-6 Cuda project you were looking at?

    I would say you are in the ballpark.  Everything can be bought new now and is better.

    Prices went down on original Hemi stuff when the alll new repro parts came out.I`d say you are real close if they are 426`s,unstamped replacement blocks maybe a little more and of course if you have someones #`s matching block it would be worth more to them.

    alot of times people use those unstamped replacement blocks in non numbers hemi cars.  You see them on ebay all the time where the motor's gone but its a BS23R car and they put a warranty block in and try to pass it off as numbers matching or "motor replaced very early on"  when in fact they threw it in there last week to try to get more $$ for the car.  For this reason the warranty blocks seem to bring a lot of $ on ebay just because you can turn a rolling hemi body into a warranty block hemi car and make up some grand story as to how it got that way and then quadruple the asking price.  I even saw an auction a few months back where a warranty hemi block was on ebay that needed a cylinder sleeved and he was asking $10,000 for it saying "turn your hemi car into a numbers matching hemi car and then go screw somebody"   (well basically thats what he was saying...)

    You should call the guy (or lady) & ask if the distributor is in front or rear...that way you'd at least know which block type you're dealing with here.
