Which Edelbrock Intake The Performer or Performer RPM
« on: October 12, 2009 - 03:22:14 PM »
Hey guys,

I'm finishing up assembling my engine and I want to get a new intake.  It's a mild 340, 30 over, purple cam, forged crank, 2.02 1.94 heads.  Now I am changing the car over to a shaker car and I'm not sure what intake will fit better under the hood.  I don't want the hood not being able to shut or be forced against the air cleaner.  Will either intake be ok?  I've heard that one is taller than the other and I want the one that's closest to stock so the hood will shut and will work best with my engine. I'm open to any suggestions.

I have a stock intake.  I am running a holley 650 double pumper and I am using the adapter plate for the stock intake.  Maybe I should I just keep that?  I'm not certain.  I want to get as much as I can out of the engine.  Thanks for all of your help.  Thanks

Dave

the RPM air gap or the LD340 are probably the best ever intakes for the 340 /360 , the Stock intake is not bad either

:iagree:  The Weiand Stealth has the same mounting height as the stocker but is no better than the stocker except for the lighter weight.

Will the air gap work well with my engine combo?  Will I notice a difference or should I just stick with my stock intake?  If I stick with the stock since I have the adapter plate for the square bore carb will I have hood fitting issues?  Thanks again

I would have to look up the height of the RPM but I bet it is probably too tall for the shaker fit , , the LD340 is probably closer but still may be too tall & is only available used , I am not familiar with the regular performer intake but for most engines the Performer was anyhting but a performer

I just went thru this. The Rpm will not fit with a shaker. The only way it will work is if you modified the baseplate. And you will hack that 550 dollar baseplate to no end.The stock edelbrock will work.

Does anyone know how much taller the performer rpm is compared to the stock 340 manifold? If its less than about an inch and a half then the performer rpm will work on the shaker, as shaker bubbles on 340 cars sit about and inch and a half lower than 440 shakers (which fit up tighter against the hood).  When i talked to Ben Snober (owns www.shakerhood.com), he said that 340 adnd 383 cars shaker bubbles sit low in the hood, so low that the seal often doesnt even contact the hood and that most people add a 1 inch space to the top of the carburetor to get the bubbles sitting nice in the hood.

Update: I just searched and it looks like the stock 340 intake is 4.5 inches tall and the performer rpm air gap (taller than performer rpm I believe) is 5.8 inches tall, so you should be able to run the performer rpm intake with a shaker hood.

I was wondering how much  can be trimmed off the base plates.  I have a victor intake on my small block.  I havent had a chance to check how things are going to fit.  I hoping in june to get everything sorted out.

2.02 intake  1.94 exhaust?   Is this a typo?
