Rear lugnut stud removal..........
« on: April 24, 2010 - 07:39:46 AM »
I need to swap the studs on my rear axle, I screwed up and got the left and right hand threads on the wrong sides when I built the 8 3/4 rear end. I need to knock them out, is it OK to beat them out while they're still on the car, or would that hurt the bearings?
THANKS!

I have done them that ways 100s of times necer had an issue. I most times screw a standard lugnut onto each studd backwards a few threads if possible.

You can also apply some heat with a torch to them to make em pop out easier.

I'm wondering if you could just swap the axles from side to side? The bearing adjustment would be the only consideration as far as I know...I'd find that out before going through the lug change. But I have swapped mine out with them installed and no issue.

If your "good" w a 2 lb hammer one or two raps per stud is all you should need. You wont hurt anything.
