I was able to use a Summit mini with Hedmans, but it touches the nose of the starter on one of the tubes. This is on a 383. Isn't a 440 wider?

Yes the 440 is taller & wider moving the headers away from the starter slightly but not enough on the hedmans

Got the mini-starter on today.  I ended up getting one at a local o'reillys for about $100 new but it has a lifetime warranty.  Install wasn't bad.  I've got hooker headers so there was lots of room.  Car spins over very fast now.  Thanks everyone for all the help!

So after driving the cuda around two days now with the new mini-starter on it.  I've realized this is a "MUST" for any mopar.  I didn't know how bad it was until this.  Perfect starts with no hesitation.  I'm loving it.

95 Dodge pickup with a 360.  A new one was about $95 with a $5 core.  A reman was $59 with a $45 core... go figure.
I found out these starters fit about 40 different V8 mopars in that time frame.

Thanks blueglow.  I ended up getting part # 17181.  Is that the same one you got?  Did you have to grind off any of the inside edge of the flange on the starter to make it go in?  Mine seems a little tight and crooked.  Thanks!

I was installing the headers on a 383 Roadrunner and as others have said here the taller deck of the 440 probably gives the starter a bit more room, but for me it wasn't even close.  I would have had to majorly dent the hedmans to make them work with the Mopar Performance mini starter and the Hooker 1 3/4" Comp headers I replaced them with worked fine.  I will say this was probably 15 years ago and Hedman could very well have made some changes since then.

Hedman may have changed the design but in my experience you will have to virtually dent the pipe to the point of closing  off the one pipe by the starter to fit hedmans on a big block with the mini

I've got Hooker headers on my 440 and the mini-starter went on with no problems.
