lowering a challenger (front spring hanger issue)
« on: September 30, 2004 - 06:32:15 PM »
I am attempting to lower the rear of my 73 chally and I have talked to several people who have said to flip the front spring hanger but when I tried that the bolts on the hanger didn't match up to the staggered holes on the frame.  Does anyone know of any companies that makes stock front spring hangers so that I can just drill them and make my owm custom hangers?

can't you just get longer ubolts and put a block under the rearend?? that would lower it...enless your planning on having tons and tons of tq. then i see don't see why a block wouldn't work...now the front would be a different story...

In a modified car I always thought it would be cool to cut a hole in the floor and build a hanger
that rises slightly over the floor for a "third hole" to adjust the spring higher.
Obviously a spring hanger like that would need to be boxed in and reinforced for strength and you
couldn't go too high or the spring would start hitting other stuff :P

Don't forget though, lowering blocks will affect handling and change frame clearence and pinion
angle

We tried on the Valiant but the car wouldn't hook with them on

Hooked good when took them off but the car was never very pretty

360, do you think just a 1 inch block would hurt?  What if you welded it to the rearend or even built longer spring seats.

After the Valiant problem we stayed away from them for good

The car was alittle more evil and scary handling then usual

I used the stock hangers , flipped them, just oval the bolt holes to where they bolt up. You don't have to oval them out much at all. Expect a GOOD 1inch drop from doing this. Nick

Since the springs on a Mopar run under the rear end, putting the blocks between the springs
and the spring seats has the effect of raising the rearend into the wheelwells thereby lowering
the car.

But.................

That changes the geometry of the rear suspension which can cause unseen problems in rearend
clearence, handling and traction

I'm not saying it wont work, I'm just saying I wouldn't try it again myself :P

was it a very bad problem when u lowered it with blocks?  I was thinking a 1/2"-1" block.
