'69 GTX Exhaust Manifold Question

I need to bend all new exhaust for a '69 GTX with a 440 engine. This engine is not original and I am wondering if there is more than one 440 exhaust manifold (where the exhaust pipe flange exits) for cars?

One more thing,is there a difference in a 383 and 440 manifold as far as exhaust pipe fit?

Terry, a 67 hp exhaust manifold is a bit different on the drivers side.  B body hp manifolds are the same for 68 69, the location for exit on them is the same, and also the same on the pass side of 67 b body manifolds. Stock manifolds non hp versions do not have the same location for exits.  E body drivers side hp also has a flange turned in a bit on them.  So if you have b body hp manifolds, you most likely will be ok.  383 is like 2 1/4 pipes and 440 is like 2 1/2 as I recall. 

The flange gaskets will all be the same for b and e body hp manifolds from 67 to 71. The regular manifolds take a smaller gasket. The bolt spread on the hp should be like 3 7/8  with a 2.5 inch exhaust hole.  The non hp gasket wont fit the flange. It will be to small. It will have a exhaust 2 1/4 hole with a smaller bolt flange spread

To my knowledge there were 2 HP castings used , the 67-69 casting & the later 70 up for both B & E body , there are also different castings for both the C & A body big blocks , the A body ones are extrememly rare

OK ,my "bend card" says for 383 and I can't find one for a 440. I will bend it up and see how it fits!

How did it turn out?  I ran across an odd exhaust issue last night while working on my car.  A part on my starter was hitting my exhaust pipe at the bend. But I went from a 440-6 factory system to a 400 block/499 build engine.  My manifolds are off a 70 440-6 challenger, the pipes were from yearone, the mufflers, over the axles tubes and resonators were from accurate, the tips were stock. I used all the factory hangers.

When all this was installed on my 440-6 engine, it all fit perfect with not a single issue, not even a small exhaust leak of any kind. I installed the 400 block with the same exhaust parts and on start up my drivers exhaust pipe was leaking. I broke the engine in since it was new, then dropped the pipe and changed the flange gasket. Started it back up and the same thing again. I thought ....Wow how did I screw up 2 times?  So I did it again a few weeks ago and the same thing again.

Well last night I decided to take a look again. Where the bend is at the flange for curving around the starter was hitting on the edge of my starter causing it not to seal quite flat and true.  Just enough to push air past, so I will have to ding the tube a little to correct this.  Yearone offers 2 types of exhaust pipe for the bb and I wasn't sure why. One set for a 383 and the other for a 440. . I feel the deck height being smaller on the (B) engine put the exhaust pipe bend that much closer.  I thought you may want to know this for future observations. My manifold says 11-10-69 for a build date.


Im glad I hadnt went on any super long journeys in my car. I was really heating up the starter housing.
