Yeah, I gave a co-worker my brand new sand blaster to use for a weekend and when I drove by his house in a rain storm I see my blaster sitting out in the rain. The next time I see him I tell him I need to use it so he brings it back, and of course all the fittings are rusty and the nozzles are broken. One hose wasn't even connected anymore and it wouldn't work right. I hate to say I won't loan out anymore tools because so many people have helped me, but I will be careful who gets them.

:iagree:   That just sucks! You would think he would have said something? :o

My problem is that all my buddies know I have almost evry tool known to man ( in there eyes anyhow?) annd so I often lend stuff out, the problem is when I need something I can't remember who has what? :pullinghair:
:iagree: Or is too cheap to buy thier own so they wanna borrow my stuff. I even have left over body work material and sand paper that i try to keep around for future projects that I BOUGHT and want me to give them the stuff so they save thier money  :swear: but when i need it i have to buy it. I also find myself having to go retreve what i let them borrow. I'm finally starting to learn to say NO alot more often.

That's bad when you haven't even had a chance to use the sandblast gun, I think we should use the saying "silence is golden", don't hear them when they ask because we certainly don't hear anything from them when they break our tools or they stay away and don't return the item.   :pullinghair:

I have a very small circle of friends that I lend tools and equipment to. To get into this circle one must earn their position. Always easier to get booted from the inner tool circle than to earn their way in.

For example, mistakes do happen so to keep in the Inner Tool Circle... once I borrowed a trailer to pick up my Cuda, oil'd a wooden plank really badly, so, I replaced that plank and 4 others while I was at it cause the others were starting to rot and I had to remove them to replace the one I ruined... this kept me in my friends 'inner tool circle'. :)

I learned a long time ago to make a friend into a foe, just loan them money. as far as tools I usually don't but a good friend of almost 30 years asked to use my welder and couple of year ago. He didn't return it after 2 weeks  one rainy Saturday I drop over to his place. There sat my welder out in the rain. I was so pissed I didn't say a thing to him. I loaded up my welder and I have not loaned him a thing since.

I loaned my bro in law (yea y'all know whats coming)my trailer back in '05 for a couple of days.About 6 months later had to ask for it back.He dropped it in the yard and left. When I got home I noticed the taillights were busted. One of the fenders was bent. The two angle iron strips at the dove tail were pulled loose. The safety chain hook on one side was bent almost straight. He lost the hitch pin.And the 6 pin plug had been drug almost completely off.Needless to say he hasn't borrowed it since and won't ever again.
