What paint/method to use on shift knob?

I have my entire interior converted over to black. The last item I need to update is the shift knob?
Any ideas on what I can do to insure it lasts, being a high wear item?

if you want to restore the wood ball ,you need to cut in the woodgrain ,rub in black paint to highlight the grain then clear coat over it to seal it in

I painted mine black using Krylon Plastic paint. Held up fine last year (no black paint on my hands etc).
