Last Week What a Week!
« on: April 25, 2010 - 01:37:47 PM »
Well last week was not a good week, my wife lost her job that she's been at for the last 20 years.  She worked at an insurance company that the state took over because it was doing so poorly.  So she only got half her severance pay, 2 months instead of 4 months.  Then I get informed that my company is shutting down my lab and moving us across town to Troy over the next couple of months.  I think we all know what happens after consolidation, Layoffs.  What the heck I've only been working there 30 years, what do I expect.  I been reading about all the other people layed off over the past couple of years, Topcat, HKchallenger to name a few and been thinking how lucky I was to still have a job, especially in Michigan.  But I couldn't help but wonder when my time is up, well it looks like my ticket may be up soon.

See ya,

Did she work at Citizens?  Troy is a haul!

I guess I should consider myself lucky selling foreclosures as it doesn't look like it is going to end any time soon.   :eek4:

Man,
I always hate hearing this kind of news. It definitely puts a knot in your stomach. I can't imagine how you folks must feel right now with the uncertainty of your future. I hope and especially pray things turn around for you and all the folks in this country that have lost jobs and homes!! We still live in the greatest nation in the world and opportunity still abounds and dreams can still be had. Keep us posted on how things pan out!! So sorry for your situation!! God bless!!

I really feel for anyone and everyone in this time of uncertainity. The emotionaly strain and drain upon families are unreal. Me, I've been the lucky one all my life I guess, never been unemployed, always had a great job with above average pay, never had to miss a house or car payment. It has to be so humiliating to a proud husband and father to go through these kind of situations, BUT IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT. I also took early retirement at the perfect time, I live quite comfortably but yes my play money has been cut in half  :roflsmiley: or more. Since 2008 this financial and jobs situation has tanked basically, sure glad I'm not a young man looking to start a family. We can only hope it soon will show some promise and begin to climb back to a stable situation.

Your family and others will be in our prayers.    :angelwings:   Hope it all comes out for the best although I'm sure it doesn't look like this now!

Thanks for all your kind words.

She went to her 1st interview today for IBM, she had to wait standing for 3 hours straight (in high heels she reminded me, ROFL) just for the 1st interview.  Over 300 people that day applying for 50 jobs, good news she made it to the second interview.

4C, no it wasn’t Citizens.  It was American Community Mutual, a health insurance company, now in receivership, that’s where the State steps in and takes over.  They are in Livonia 7-mile and Haggarety area.  Ya, Troy will be a cruise; the traffic is terrible on I-696 during rush hour.  The worst thing is our son is a sophomore at Lutheran Westland and soon neither of us will be working in that area, so I don’t know how that’s going to work.  I’m sure he wouldn’t mind his own car, but I don’t know how that’s going to happen.

See ya,
