Rear Axle U-Bolts
« on: May 08, 2010 - 07:05:02 PM »
Just putting my rear axle back in and I'm wondering, should there be a washer in between the nut and the shock plate?  :dunno:

Really?

I've never seen them on my cars. And the new u-bolts I've purchased never had washers.

Sorry to hijack but I think that this fits the topic too.

What is the correct torque for the u-bolts? Should I just tighten them up to "tight enough"?

Better go with the right torque spec.

"tight enough" scares me on those bolts.

My service manual (1973) says 45 foot pounds. Not too tight. The manual also points out "Do Not Over Tighten" the U-bolts.

Good Thread,  Was wondering the torque and just think on the trucks I work on we torqued them to 400lbs each.  My arms are much stronger now hehehehehehe
