Who has the Best Prices, Complete 440 6 Pack Kit?
« on: May 09, 2010 - 06:21:39 PM »
Who has the best prices on a New 440 6 Pack Manifold, Carbs, Linkages, Air Cleaner Assembly, etc...The complete kit.

What is the difference between the Edelbrock and Mopar 6 pack Manifold? Same?

Thanks.

Not sure about a kit price, but you will most likely do better to shop around for the components.  I saved over $400 several years ago by doing that rather than buying the cheapest kit price at the time (which I think was around $2,100).  I got the carbs and air cleaner through Summit, intake and linkage/fuel lines through Year One, and some other parts through Ebay.

That's surprising, did you factor in all the seperate shipping charges?  I did a similiar exercise when I was rebuilding my front end,  no way I could beat the package deal.

Mopar used the Eddy intake on the 69 440+6 & then cast their own iron intake for 70-71

I thought the early ones were cast iron then went to aluminum.

The 6 pack was used in very small #s on only the A12 lift off hood Road Runners & Supe Bees so Chrysler just used aftermarket intakes in 69 , went the 6 pack became an option on the rest of the cars Chrysler decided to cast their own intake as it became cost effective to do so with the larger # of 6 pack cars being built.
The 340 intakes were always alum , as it was once again a small batch of special limited run cars

The money saved does include the extra shipping from multiple sources.  I think I lucked out, though, because at the time the carbs were dirt cheap through Summit.  I even called them to check the part numbers just to make sure they were the same ones.  I'm not sure what happened, but maybe they had a surplus at the time.  Either way, if you are not pressed for time, be patient and shop around.
