340 engine decode help

Hi I need some help decoding my 340. It is in a 72 Cuda. The code is GM 340P 35740089. My understanding is this is a 71 340, but that julian calander thing messes me up. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Welcome to the site. 

GM 340P 3574 0089 is the engine serial number. (not to be confused with the VIN number, it is on the passenger side)

G - Series (model year) 1971
M - Mound Road engine assembly plant
340 - 340 cid
P - Premium fuel
3574 - Engine final assembly date - May 10, 1971
0089 - 89th engine assembled at that plant that day
