Oil Pressure Gauge Question
« on: May 15, 2010 - 09:32:52 PM »
On my 1970 Cuda with Rallye Dash, my oil pressure gauge goes straight to full swing on H as soon as I start the car.  I'm thinking I have an electrical problem either making it totally open or short.  It has the factory oil pressure sensor on it.
Any ideas or good trouble shooting steps?
Thanks!

I don't have a factory rallye dash, but had a similar problem where the wire on the sending unit was shorted out. Sounds like you may have the same problem. Make sure there's not something metal touching your electrical connection at your sending unit or at the meter in the dash.

Since you say "as soon as I start the car" and not "as soon as I turn on the ignition" I would think your sender is faulty, or you have a sender for an oil light instead of one for an oil gauge.

If it is a faulty gauge sender you can easily open it up and have a look inside (just un-crimp the base using wire cutters and pull the cover off).  If you can fix it then a couple or three crimps will hold it back togeter again.  You can adjust them as well once you are inside - there's a screw for it.
