I need some idea's were to mount a MSD 6AL box!
« on: May 27, 2010 - 07:12:37 PM »
I'm looking for some idea's and pictures on mounting an MSD box? I'm thinking under the battery tray or on the firewall. With the firewall I'm a little apprehensive on drilling though the firewall and hitting the heater core or something?
Anyone have some pictures to post?  :picture:
Thanks Brad

I am also trying to find a good place to mount it. I heard that mounting it upside down moisture can get in it so I am thinking of mounting mine some where inside up in the dash, but I have no idea if it is possible  :clueless:

ALL electronics hate heat . with that said , i would put it in the car under the dash if you have the room . like ignition coils mounted on the intake manifold (bad idea ) . the cooler the electronics the better they operate . YES the factory mounting position for the coil is a bad place for it . MYOP Bill

Thanks Tom :2thumbs:, yep I do remember that were I got the idea. The only problem I have mounting it under the battery is I was going to mount the relays there too and the MSD box is bigger that what you have so it doesn't leave much if any room for the relays. I have a relay for my engine fan and am going to put relays on the headlights too.

I actually have an MSD-6AL under there now and these are/were there too!
I made as simple bracket for 3 relays and made a plate to bolt the fuse block/distribution stuff under the battery tray.  never had a problem with moisture and I drive in the rain as you remember!LOL

Got mine under there too.
Just need to make sure you keep the area neutralized from battery acid!!

that would be sweet if you installed a optima/excide jell cell so you dont have to worry about acid.

I mounted mine inside the passenger compartment on the tranny tunnel.

I do not have a console so there was plenty of room.  My Cuda is a tripple black convertible and I wanted to keep heat from becoming a factor.  The red box looks kinda cool on the black carpet.  I can take photos this weekend...

Thanks all !!!  I mounted mine under the battery tray. It's tight in there with the relay's for the headlights and the Mopar MSD box but it all fits! I need a new battery tray, but I'll pick one up at Carlisle next month!

Thanks, I pre-wired most of it out of the car to get the fit right.

Autozone for the fuseblock and Walmart for the big ones. :chatting:
