rear main seal install I question

I am trying to install the rear main seal on my 383. I am confused on what to do.
I have a book on rebuilding chrysler engines  that says to use yellow contact cement to hold the side seals on the retainer, then use a thin coat of sealer on the side seals before installing the retainer.
But the instructions that came with the side seals(they are Viton type seals that I got from 440 Source) say not to use ANY type of sealer when installing the seals.  Does any one have any experience with this?
FYI the actual rear split seals are the standard "black" seals that came with the gasket kit the machine shop used.

I usually follow the manufacturers guidelines. Chrysler doesnt know what other new seals are being made (new parts/new techniques). That being said, I leave those strips out and fill the void with Ultra black Permatex.
If I cant fix it, it's broke

the round viton seal doesn`t need sealer but there are fiber seals up the sides of the seal plate ,these can be very hard to get sealded up properly . I use right stuff sealant up both sides & then pack in some sealer along the gap with a small screw driver from inside the crankcase .
the new Fel Pro seal has pipe cleaners instead of the fiber strips , I still have not figured out how to make the pipe cleaner strips work
