Lets talk car stereos- what are U using in your Mopar?
« on: July 02, 2010 - 05:22:41 PM »
I am in the need for a complete stereo for my 70 Cuda vert. In it now is am AM 8 track. I want something new or something hidden that I can use with it or just leave the 8 track in for looks.

Being a vert I have no back shelf for speakers.

I have been away from worrying about stereos for a long time.

Any ideas for a vert owner as far as items to be hidden. If not possible, I will remove the 8 track and use something new. I DONT WANT TO cut any holes in the door panels, ect.

Thanks for any ideas.

Oh, and I dont no any 'thunmp thump thump amps, I am almost 49, not my style!!!! :bigshades:

Just having that AM/8-track in there would add a whole bunch to the coolness to your car. I would tend to not want to remove it.

I never really thought about a vert not having a back shelf for 6X9 speakers. I'm not sure how to overcome that.   :clueless:  In any event, maybe the above posted link will help you.

Put some boxes in the well?? or mayhap just fill up the trunk. If you have a three speaker dash, Stuff the very best speaks you can find in there.

Of course, I dont have a E vert so I could be talkin out my arse here :roflsmiley:

Did you nibble your lower trim piece?? If so, :nono:
Just kidding, I lived with the fit of the stereo trim ring rather than nibbling the trim.

I've had several convertibles through the years, in my 72 Cougar XR7 convrt I used Pioneer 'wedge' speakers with extra speaker wire so that I could put them behind the seats when the top was up and moved them into the back seats when the top was down.  There was no way I was cutting the back plastic panels as rare as they were!  This worked well and although not audiophile quality still sounded pretty good.  I don't know if they still make this type of speaker, but I bet you could get a new/old set off Ebay if you looked around.   I agree with the others that I probably would not pull the 8 track out of the dash and would go for one of the hidden units instead.

I trimmed the stereo bezel on mine, no cutting of the car at all.
A buddy with a vert has some small speakers facing down from under the dash, good for highs(voice).

I agree, I only have the sweet sound of the exhaust.  If want to change notes I just hit the throttle  :jumping:

I have an updated  original am 8-track in my vert that plays my Ipod and am fm radio with 45 wats of power. the hardest part is the speakers the dash ones are so small you cant get any base I am working on a hidden sub for a little deeper sound but I haven't found were to hide it yet.

I agree exhaust is the best system
convertables are tough , nowhere to put decent speakers at all
I am using an Ipod & a hidden mini amp with good quaility 6x9 speakers under the rear shelf
