wiper motor mounting to firewall
« on: June 09, 2010 - 10:16:12 PM »
Wiper motor has 3 rubber bushings.  I have one collar that fits inside the rubber bushings, seems like I need 2 more collars so each bushing has a collar to limit the amount of compression of the bushing...correct??
Next question, wiper motor is held in place by 3 nuts with toothed flange that prevents the nuts from turning loose, are there supposed to be metal washers that the lock nuts push down onto??  Otherwise the lock nut is only biting into the thin flange of the bushing collar.
Thanks for your help.
Phil

you need 3 bushings
I have always seen the bushings with the flange against the firewall & the nut against the rubber

Yes.. Sorry, I should have let you know.  Everything fit no problem.   With the nuts compressing the rubber bushings, not sure if the nuts are bottomed out on the metal collars you sent me, maybe I should tighten them until the do.  I just ran them snug plus a little.
Should I run a ground strap from the wiper ground strap to a dedicated ground, or accept the way it is assuming the wiper motor runs with no problem?   The way it is now, seems like the grounding is from the ground strap to the nut, then between the nut and threads,  I guess I'm used to ground leads clamped solidly in place.
Thanks again for you help.  Your product and service are first rate.  Phil

Phil push the inserts with the collars from the backside of the motor (firewall side), collars will be visible from the backside of the motor and will not push out when putting the motor on the firewall (yeah I know seems redundant doesn't it?) and then put the mounting nuts on with the mounting nut on top of the ground strap provided on the motor, tighten her down...that should be sufficient, snug and a little is good.  Turn ignition to "on" position and run the motor from low to high. If you hear a slight "dragging" noise, that's normal, it's the gear breaking in and will clear up with a little time.  If you have any problems with it, lemme know, you got my number...now drive it like you stole it  ---> rain or shine   :smilielol:
