Cal-Tracs

Folks - I installed a Ford truck Dana 60 rear in my car (with the Dodge outer bearing housings installed etc) but cannot reuse the pinion snubber. Seeing as my engine should be in the 600HP range (at the flywheel) I would suspect lots of diff windup during hard takeoffs. So CalTracs are probably the best route right? And if I go that route this car is more of a high speed road car as opposed to a drag car, so would the CalTracs affect the handling?IE make it worse or better than if I had a snubber setup? The car is a 73 Chally with the factory front and rear sway bars and complete Poly bushings throughout the entire suspension.

Seeing as how you will be using it more for street use, i would suggest getting the leaf spring repacked with an extra 1 and a 1/2 leaves on each side.  Get the spring shop to face the half spring forward to help with hard throtle launches.  This excercise should be cheaper than fitting Cal tracs and make the car more comfortable on hard driving road trips. :2thumbs:

Ken thanks from a Canuck/Kiwi. So would this mod you suggest be the same or better than replacing with 70-71 Hemi-6 Pack SS springs? At the moment it still has the stock 340 car springs 5 leaves per side.

Caltracs are real bouncy on the street.... high speed road car.... I would lower the thing for sure...

I would suggest lowering the car a little like Stroker said and the 340 springs you have will be enough once you add the additional springs in to your existing spring pack.  I would get a long spring under the main leaf and make it the  same end to end length as the main leaf and fit the half spring at the bottom of the spring pack just a little shorter than the shortest leaf at the bottom.   Their is no need too buy any special springs when you can add to the spring pack you already have old mate. :2thumbs:

Clamping the front spring pack will help a lot , I have found No gain with Caltracs so far , I do have some spare clamps , could weld a threaded pinion bumper up into the body above the diff as well

i was wonderiing chryco if u ever found gains with ur caltracs....im considering them....but not sure if its worth the cash....running on the street 95%...using ss now and the car wont hook for squat.....my motor makes more power than my last, more than i thought....just curiouis
