How much power can you get out of a Big Block for $10,000?

Just curious. Since my car is a long ways out I like to "window shop" and look at parts and stuff, even though I still have no idea what I'm gonna end up buying. So, on average, what kind of a Big Block build could you come up with for 10,000?

If you have a block and headers and are using a single 4bbl you should be able to make a reliable real 550-600hp in varying displacements. This assumes pump gas, street/strip use, buying everything else new, and no dyno time.

You can get a ot of power for that even over 600 hp & 700 tq depending what you use , but using a stock block build with stroker pkg & girdle & a good set of heads & cam it is easy to make power

That's good. The biggest reason I was gonna stay with the 340 is that the weight is less. But now I am kind of leaning toward the BB. But then again what I want changes all the time, as I am so far off from being done. I'm gonna go look at a 318 today so that I will have a motor once I get the floor pan welded in and start on the firewall. So I will have a motor to run while I build a good one.

for 7k range a stroker 340 =416 should get you 500-550 hp on pump gas .

Key to all of these engines is a strong lower end 1st, 2nd good head work for much better than stock flow, 3rd improve oil system too and or invest the $$s if you are going to 10k in some performace heads and have them ported and runner intake matched too.

A stroker 440 can easy make 750 HP with good heads and a enough torque to break the drive train too.

If you put alum heads, intake, and water pump housing the weight will be near that of a SB too.

You can make enough to twist the body with 10K. The real question is, what do you want to do with it? Cruiser? Racer? I know, a little bit of everything, right? I would say start off with a 400 engine block and a stroker kit based on forged rotating assembly, girdle, aluminum CLOSED chamber heads, and an M1, Mopar part# P4529462.

Look over at Moparts for good deals on unwanted intakes and cylinder heads.
