Cuda suspension
« on: July 15, 2011 - 08:50:50 AM »
Sloppy steering..... I have rebuilt the front end of a '74 cuda 360, ball joints, upper & lower, a frame bushings ...everything except for the pitman arm. I did notice the steering did tighten up but I still do have some slop in the steering. Will the new pitman arm clean this up or could it be in the power steering box? Thanks for any help.

Have someone turn the steering wheel back and forth very quickly while you have your hand on the pitman arm/center link connection.  You should be able to feel if there is slop at that joint.  The steering box is adjustable too.  You can find the adjustment in the factory servise manual.  I don't know what it is right off hand.  Also, check the steering coupler(on the end of the steering column) for slop.  You can get a rebuild kit for those as well.

Welcome to Cuda-Challenger
There are several issues that may cause problems including worn parts, poor alignment, bad shocks, loose steering box bolts, broken welds on K-frame as well as the fact these cars just don't drive like modern cars
Many refer to the over assist from the power steering which going with a Firm Feel stiffer box seems to help
Here are some links to contemplate.
