Fuel gauge
« on: June 21, 2010 - 10:40:02 AM »
Ever since I installed my CD player and changed the location of my electric fuel pump I have no fuel gauge. I tried looking behind the dash to see if I could see if a wire was off but I had no luck, that combined with the fact that I couldn't sit still long enough to troubleshoot (first time out in thee years I was itching). Everything at the tank looks good. And idea's on what to do??

Is the sending unit connected to ground?  The factory used a jumper wire that connected the pick-up to the rest of the fuel line.  Depending on the changes you may to accomodate an electric pump, you may have inadvertantly eliminated this path.

The ground strap is in there.  What if I ground the sending wire for a second, shouldn't it go full scale?

Should.

Another option is that your float may be stuck.  Mine doesn't register until it gets bumped around from driving a little.

If you hook it ground, don't leave it for more than 30 seconds since you can fry it. If you use a 10 ohm resistor, it should go right to the FULL mark.

trace the power , it should have a pulsing voltage atthe gauage then out of the guage to the plug behind the kick panel then the voltage should go back to the sender where the vlotage stops is where the problem is
