8 3/4 rear end
« on: June 29, 2010 - 06:28:44 AM »
Hi,
after some research I discovered that the rear end found on my car should be an 8 3/4 from 1957-1964   and not the correct 1965-1974 that should fit the 70 Barracuda.

You can see the large axle shaft nut:

My question is:   are the rear end housing the same for both the versions ?

I would like to have a correct rear end and so I'm wondering if I can just change the axle shaft and the center section or I need to find a complete new housing

thanks

You will have to swap the entire rear end, as NOTHING but the center section interchanges between those two rears. I'm not surprized your E-Body has that rear, as it is a DIRECT bolt in for a 1957-1960 Mopar and most all the E-body rears are sought after for these early 8 3/4 rears....

The Axles, seals, bearings, etc. are all smaller and set up with shims...
