Baby Car seats
« on: June 28, 2010 - 10:12:39 AM »
Wanted to get a take on car seats for kids/babies.  Got one on the way and was thinking the little guy is going to have to go on cruise nights with dad.  What do you guys use if any and how do you secure them? regular seat belts or do you use something aftermarket?

thanks

Little man will have to be in a rear-facing seat for the first year or so.  That'll be pretty cramped in an E-body.  I'm just using new replacement seat belts to hold the base or seat in.

Once he's in a front facing seat, it's really cool because you'll be so close that they can touch your shoulder.

I haven't taken the baby out in one of the old cars yet. Too much exhaust fumes and noise. But I would think with our small backseats, the seat would have to be in the middle rear.

Also, you may want to consider one of the Graco package deals. Its a seat base, seat, and stroller. You can get extra bases and strap them in each car. All you do then is snap the seat into the base each time you go out, so easy.

This is really the way to go.  Taking the seat in and out is cake.  We could accually use two cars seats right now.  There have been times when the wife will need to take the kid somewhere but the car seat is in my car.  I was even half way to work once and had to turn around to bring the seat back home.

Car seats are a tight squeeze in E-bodies.  I have 5-year-old twins.  Since they were two they've had to fold their legs to ride in my Cuda.  For a 6'-2" adult to fit in the front, the seat has to be back all the way.  This leaves little room between the front and rear seat.  When my kids were small their legs stuck out past the car seat and hit the front seat backs, so they'd have to fold their legs.  Now their legs are longer and hang down.  But there isn't enough room for their feet to face forward, so they still have to fold their legs.

Regarding seats, make sure you get one that will convert into a booster seat when they get older, otherwise you'll be sheling out more money when they are five.

Evenflo makes some really cool looking race-car style kids' seats.  I have them in all of my cars.  The wife has some classy looking Gracos in her Jeep.

Never had them in the small car seat for babies, but the booster seats work well.  I did put new belts in the rear for them.  The fronts are in pretty good shape and the boys like the front better.

If it's too loud then???LOL

Recarro seat here. It is a front facing seat that will last them from the time they start facing front into the toddler years when they grow out of it. It is the safest seat on the market for any kid sitting facing front period. Kinda pricey but when you consider not having to buy two seats it makes up for it.
When they start facing forward they make the baby front facing seats, they will grow out of that and you'll have to buy a bigger "booster" for toddler size kids. This one is both. We've had it for 4 years and it has held up very well and our kiddo is really comfortable in it. It is very ergonomical.
