727 won't shift to 3rd.............
« on: June 13, 2010 - 06:31:46 PM »
I got the rebuilt motor in, but the old 727 won't shift to 3rd gear. I have the Lokar throttle and trans linkage.
Please give me a few possible solutions to this problem. I was about 1 quart low on trans fluid......I have not driven it since adding a quart.
I appreciate any help I can get....THANKS!

Your kick down linkage may be set back to far

The kick down was not tight at all, I've got that pretty tight as directed in the Lokar directions....  Still, no 3rd gear.

I did not adjust this after I put everything back together. I had to unbolt the trans and move it back 2 or 3 inches to put the motor back in. But the front part of the linkage that goes between the headers was not connected. Maybe this needs to be adjusted. My buddy Jim did that the first time we put the motor in. I don't remember how to adjust this. Could this be the problem? Can someone tell me how to adjust this?
THANKS!

Did you ever get this problem fixed?  I have been fighting with mine now and can get it to shift to 3rd only at about 65 mph.

Probably not related, but the transmission oil line looks kinked (bottom photo) where it goes into the trans....

I probably only need to adjust my kick down lever.  Then, which way do I adjust it?

Factory linkage? Shorten the rod.

It is a Lokar setup.  I believe that I need to do the final setup now that I think about it.  I do not think that I held it wot and pulled the cable tight.  Could this be a reason for the late shift?

Put more slack in the cable.
