What products do you use to clean a satin T/A hood?
« on: July 25, 2010 - 12:09:26 PM »
Just washed mine for the first time, and I have water spots on my Satin T/A  hood. :sly: We do have hard water here.  I'm afraid to wax  it being a satin/flat hood. I don't want it to be shiny!
What do you recommend? :dunno:

Removing the spots is the 1st challenge, I'd get the surface cool in the shade, try some Windex then diluted white vinegar then straight white vinegar, ultimately a polishing compound.
I've been using ArmorAll Ultra Shine Wash & Wax Detailer lately on our DDs. Spray on, work with sponge & wipe off damp with microfiber cloth ...Noticed that the wiper arms on the GT stayed relatively flat whereas some products have given more of a sheen to them.
Wash & dry your car in the shade.

Brad, I use this on all the flat black painted trim on all my cars. It works great. http://www.turtlewax.com/main.taf?p=2,1,1,2  :2thumbs:

Use no wax or polishing products on Organisol / flat hoods.

Wash with soapy water, rinse & pat dry with a large towel.

When waxing / polishing the fender tops, do it with the hood open to avoid getting wax on the hood.

Most important is to rinse off with plenty of water and then dry the hood with a waffle weave drying towel or some microfiber towel to avoid water stains.

For waxing it's difficult. Polish is no-go of course. I have been recommended Swissvax Opaque for my T/A hood, but haven't bought one yet. I believe my hood has been repainted some time and is probably not the original organisol surface. I wouldn't be afraid to try Swissvax Opaque to protect hood paint finish. Wax turns flat black hoods white / opaque & spotchy.

Brad,

I use the Meguiar's quick detail spray on mine and it gives me no problems.

Well you know what they say about opinions....
I've never had a problem with spray "Detailers" that you wipe off wet clouding flat.

Detail sprays did not exist the last time I washed my T/A, so I have no experience at all with them.

Regular wax is right out though.

My hood is NOT Organisol.  Brad has seen my hood, I assume his is a satin paint as mine is not the original style paint fwiw.

Tom :2thumbs:

BTW I use it over the stripes and fender decals too, no problems.
