9.25in brake backing plates to 8.75 compatibility

 Was wondering if the backing plates from a nine and a quarter inch rear end (1972)can be bolted up to a eight and three quarter rear end? Anybody able to advise on this? Im wondering if I should bother stripping them from a donor car i have here. Cheers,

yes the backing plates all have 5 holes even if they only use 4
