Over Heating Problem
« on: July 28, 2010 - 06:14:20 PM »
I have replaced the water pump and housing with a aluminmum from 440 Source .  It's been over heating but also added a AC system and changed the radiator to  a aluminmum.  On another forum some one mentioned that some people have had a problem with the housing not having big enough passages.  Has anyone else seen this and how would you know and how would you fix it.

I have a 440 source water pump and housing too. It seems to work fine as far as cooling is concerned? I had to machine 3 parts on it before I could use it though? :banghead: Did the impeller seem tight when installed it?
I drill a small hole(1/32) off to the side of the thermostat before I install so I don't have to "burp it" as Jason said?
Do you have a shroud on the fan?
Does it overheat all the time of just in traffic? what temps are you seeing? Stock gauges or aftermarket?

It's been awhile since I put the pump and housing on.  After market gauges.  I just picked up a thermometer that you point at something.  I am going to try and start working on this problem this week.  I have been real busy with work just haven't had a chance.  If you are going down the hwy and turn the AC on it will start over heating in a couple of miles.  If you don't have it on and you are in stop and go traffic it will get up to 210-220 maybe.  I am going to check some temps and see if the guage is reading correctly.  Also drill a hole in the  thermostat and see if that works.  Then I will pull the water pump and housing.  I will let you know what I find out.

The hole in the thermostat can help when first installed but all thermostats do have a small hole from new, usually it is in the centre.
Sounds like you might have either a too hot thermostat to start with but the water flow or radiator is too small.
What type of fan are you running and do you have a shroud.

No shroud, but a new aluminmum radiator. Has a plastic flex fan.

I'd try a shroud and a HD Mopar fan first?  Get the HD clutch fan that has the thermo spring out front.
I run the Chevy HHR fan ( $50!!) and have no problems so far?
