I don't get it. Now I have a fuel leak.

I have a couple line adapters in place, that's not the problem though.

I think the problem is the steel line coming from the sending unit. The old line was pushed on all the way around the bend with two hose clamps on it. the new line is pushed up to where I can have two hose clamps on it and it's still leaking.

I suspect the steel line has a small hole in it somewhere I can't see. The sending unit assembly appears to be fairly old (from the outside) and there appears to be some corrosion on the steel line coming out of it.

The tank is fairly new and has started to oxidize, but is not rusted.

What should I do? Should I just push the line on as far as the old one (very tough to do in the position I have to work in), or should I replace the sending unit assembly on the tank?

Edit:11Jul2010: 2247: I pushed the line on farther (only about 1/8"), it's been a short 10 minute drive, nearly 2 hours and no leak. Hopefully, this will save me $100 over a new sending unit.

With that old cap, I wonder how much fuel has evaporated in the last 5/6 weeks since I last ran the car. It was getting close to empty after the last time I drove it. 118 miles on the trip, it usually only goes 138-142 on a tank because of how rich it runs and the way we drive it.

Just a thought...  I'v had problems in the past with the jets in the carbs of my motorcycle blocking up (coking) after sitting for a month or so with fuel just sitting there.  Could that be your problem?

I use Sta-bil and Lucas injector cleaner.

I did get an electric fuel pump installed and got all the leaks sealed. No more problems there. I think there's a small flaw in my repair somewhere. There's a minor leak at the back of the passenger side valve cover still.

It seems to be getting smaller with each turn of the hold down.

That's good, right?
