Stearing gear and Pitman 1970 Challenger
« on: August 17, 2010 - 05:04:49 AM »
My powerstearing was trashed/really bad so i bought a new one Edelmann Dodge Steering Gear Box on Ebay(Edelmann 2651).
Anyway it bolted right on and everything but the pitman was to small in the splime(not by much) so i couldent get it on.
So my wondering is what pitman is correct for my 1970 JH29L Challenger or is it that i bought wrong stearing gear anyway? Or is it a 73 stearing on it or something.

This was on the ad, and being a Swede it isent that easy to get together with the tecnical  words so bare with me. Is the last number the size on the pitman connection?
Gear Pitman Shaft Spline Counts 5/8 Steering Gear Box Input Shaft Diameter 1.1875 Steering Gear Box Output Shaft Diameter 3 Number Steering Gear Box Turns 3 1/2 PS Gear Box Line Thread Size 1/2x20.

The 72-74 steering boxes had a larger spline than the 70-71.  You will need the later type pitman arm.  The good news is that the later type arm is cheaper and easier to get than the early one.

I got a later type Moog pitman arm when I ordered all parts to rebuild my 70`s front end.  pm me if you need it, it`s brand new, I just used the nut for something else.
