Cluster bezel fitment question
« on: September 03, 2010 - 12:26:40 AM »
first off, I spent 3 hours  :banghead: against the wall trying to figure out which way this thing goes  :swear: together after 5 years apart.
I noticed I can not get eh cluster bezel to sit on top of the cluster lense properly. :pullinghair:
I nearly broke it trying to wrestle with it. I took it apart and put it together 6 times+.
WTF?  :blah: :blah: :blah:

Any ideas?

Maybe the tubes for the turn signal lights are getting in your way if they aren't installed correctly.    :dunno:

The hard part is getting the cluster into the dash opening--everyone has trouble with that.  It's a wonder they were able to do it in the factory without stopping the line each time.  Is that the part you're having problems with, or is it just about making the pieces fit?

I discovered the problem.
Non rally gauges use 3 of the 4 fastener holes allocated for the instrument cluster. I found that I had fastened the one closest to the speedo (5 o'clock) with  the cluster mounting in front of of the metal IP frame, when it needed to float behind the tab.
It fit no problem after I discovered this odd sequence, and I do mean ODD.  :clueless: :dunno:
Truthfully, I can't even imagine how they sold the plant on this assembly process, especially with ALL of the different screws.
I do know that the IP's were built as complete assemblies and decked into the car fully assembled.
