New kid on the block
« on: July 06, 2010 - 11:04:31 PM »
Hello!  I'm new here and just want to make a short introduction.  I've restored older Mopars; 54 Dodge 1-ton pickup,54 Chrysler New Yorker Deluxe, 55 Plymouth 2-door hard-top, 51 John Deere  AR Tractor etc.  I've owned my 70 RT for 20 years and never drove it much because it was not all it could be.  Now I'm restoring it to a very high level but have a long way to go.  After 2 years on a rotesserie it is now on it's new suspension and going back togeather.  Altho it is a big block car (383) it had a 340 in it when it came to me.  Im installing a 440 since the correct engine is long gone.  Everything else will be correct, using the fender tag as my roadmap.  It is, will be, sublime lime, has a 727 transmission, slap-stick, black leather, 8 3/4 with 3.23 gears, power front discs, power steering (new), front and rear sway bars, 6-way adjustable seat and of course being an RT it has a rally dash. I'm looking for a 22" radiator.  That's about it.  I plan to post occasionally.  Thanks for listening,  Skunkworks Challenger  :working:

Hi,
I finally got around to posting a pictue of my car (above).  First I had to learn to down size photos.  Now that that is behind me I may post others as I progress.  I've been building my 440 and it is almost done then on to the 727.  The mechanical is much more fun than sanding on the body!  PK

Pictures!  I have a few new ones that are interesting to me and hopefully to you guys.  They show my gas tank prior to installation with the "original" but reconditioned felt pad on top and the inside of the tank with the pour- in liner as it dried in place.  Also shown is the muffler heat shield in-place but not bolted at the muffler hanger bracket.  Comments?

Thanks to all who have responded to my introduction.  What a web site!  Message to Challenger III.  I checked out your restoration link.  Your car needed more metal replacement than mine.  You did a terrific job.  I have no comment on the pictures inside my tank except to warn  "this shouldn't be tried at home".  Getting out can be more difficult than getting in.  I'm familiar with the Yakima area.  Did you know of or ever see those Super Birds that used to be along W. Washington.  This was back in the 70's and 80's.  I saw them on some of my trips to the Yakima area to buy Hops. Yakima is a good Mopar area as opposed to Olympia which is mostly Mustang handicapped.  PK

There's a couple of '70 Super Birds I see driving around from time to time. Both original unmolested by the looks of them. One white and one blue. Not sure if they are the ones you're thinking about.... moved here from Seattle around '92. I think there's a hot rod of some sort in every garage around here, I'm sure! Lots of Mopars.
