70-71 front lighting harness plug into a 73?
« on: December 23, 2013 - 12:31:54 PM »
I am assuming a 70-71 front wiring harness(lights) will plug into the 73 bulkhead firewall connector? Pins all line up in correct place? I had converted my side marker lights to the 70-71 style and need to order correct harness, however what problems will i run into with the headlights and grill area, which are still the 73 style? Would i be better off to buy a 73 harness and replace the ends for the side lights? I called MH and they weren't not sure if bulkhead was the same.

If you do a search on google for wiring harness 73 Cuda you will find they are different from the 70-71 year models.

I would find one for a 73.

Will they plug in?  Yes.  Will it be correct? no.  I was in a bind and got a smoking deal (almost free) on a new front engine and headlight harness for a 71 Charger small block.  I made it work on my 72 Challenger big block with a little creative modifications.  Far from ideal, but also much better than the hacked up melted crap that was in my car to begin with.
Yes I own a 1972 Dodge Challenger Convertible T/A S/E with a 440 Six Pak. Can it get any more wrong?

So it sounds like i should probably purchase the 73 challenger front lighting harness and then buy the ends to put on for the 70-71 side marker lights.

Oh man....You're asking for headaches... :22yikes:

Stick with a 73 harness and convert the market lights. 70-71 Harness does not have horn wires and if I remember correctly, there are a couple of wires different at the bulkhead as well. :2cents:
