Missing a nut
« on: September 30, 2010 - 05:04:09 PM »
I noticed that a nut fell off the stud on the A833 4-speed transmission that connects the reverse adjusting swivel on the shift linkage. I can't get any of my spare nuts to go on this stud correctly.  It appears to be a 1/4 inch diameter stud but I can't tell the thread type. The stud is about 3/4 inch long at the bottom driver's side of the transmission case.  Does anyone know what thread type this is and what the nut looked like?  And if there are any special washers that go with it.  Thanks!

It has a serated washer built on the nut. It is fine thread. You might remove one off the 3/4th or 1/2 lever to be sure the threads are ok, then , take the nut up to a parts store and get another. Some people use a regular nut and a lock washer and it does fine. They come off with a 1/2 inch wrench.  I'm thinking, but can't remeber, that it's a 6/16ths bolt fine thread SAE

Thanks!  That is exactly what I did.  I took off the nut from one of the other levers and went to Lowe's with it.  For future reference, it's a 5/16" by 24 nut with a built in serrated washer. I can't remember exactly what they are called.   Lowe's did not have those in that size/thread so I bought 4 5/16" x 24 lock nuts to use on the reverse lever and 3 spares in case any others fall off later.

It is called a serrated flange nut.
