I need some drivetrain advice. My car is totally stripped and almost ready to shoot the engine bay and jams with sublime. I havent put the carpet in yet so now is the time to convert it or mount an auto shifter of some sort. I had been thinking of keeping the column shift so it looks stock but I have a feeling the headers and blig block are going to take out the column linkage. My option was to put a hurst pro shifter from summit racing and run a cable down to a 727 - easy and quick, or do I try to find some type of manual and try to convert everything over- I'm a bit worried I would ruin it by hacking it up too much. I'm looking for some advice- what would you guys do. It was a 318 column auto with a 489 non-posi stamp rear end.

Well, if you put a b&m shifter in, then you will have to cut a hole in your floor. Changing over to a floor shift is not as hard as you think it would be. Some members here already have the parts you need to install the stock floor shift in. It would take just a couple of hour knowing you have the seats and carpet out.

Don't put a B&M shifter in YUCK! My car had one when I bought it, it was one of the first things I tossed! I agree with Alan, round up the parts and make it a floor shift! Start a new post in parts wanted and see what parts come up? The e-body console is a thing of beauty in my opinion! It was not hard to do the conversion!
