Pro Body guys: Whats harder to do, Challenger or Cuda?
« on: September 23, 2010 - 01:21:35 AM »
Body lines on a Cuda are very Subtle. But a Challenger has crisper lines.

To me it appears the body lines on a Challenger are cake. Is that true? Or are they harder overall?

haven`t tried a challenger yet, but I found cuda bodylines very hard to see once the shine is gone...

I have`nt done a Challenger but the curved part right above the body line is probably a PITA!

I've done both and prefer the flatter panels on the cuda compared to the curves on the Challenger, but that's just me.

Both bodies present their own set of challenges.

I find the subtle Cuda center body line more of a "*****" so to speak to make uniform than the concave lines of a Challenger. lotta blocking an centering to make it look right no matter which body.

When blocking bodylines, there isn't any "Easier" to do car than the other....they are both a real beeeyotch if you've ever done any panel replacement...

Is this common practice whether its a Cuda or Challenger to tape off the bodyline once it is determined to be accurate?

They are probably doing that to help better define the line, and make it nice and crisp when doing the blocking

Taping the body lines are definitely an aid in either Cuda or Challenger but when it comes to doing the wheel well surrounds there is no contest on which is more difficult.  The additional sculpting on the Challenger are definitely CHALLENGING.  Take a close look and you will see what I mean.  PK

"What helps me is masking tape. I do one side of the line at a time. If the line is straight then I take a long piece of masking tape and attach it on the upper side of the body line on a spot on the car that is good and then pull the tape and attach it to a good spot on the car on the other side of my work area. This shows me where the line is supposed to be. With the tape in place I block the lower area only. I block with a long board parallel to the tape bringing the board up to the tape line and then off the car into space. When I get it looking good I put another piece of tape on the area I just sanded just next to the first tape.

Now remove the first tape and block the top with the long board parallel to the tape again. Blocking down to the tape but keep the board on the top surface and don’t let it break over the line. You cross the line but don’t let the block roll into the lower surface. Let it come off the car into space. If you are careful you won’t hit your tape and you will get a nice crisp line. You may need to round the edge some but be careful, it flattens down fast.
Others may do this differently but the tape works for me."
