drum or disc?
« on: September 23, 2010 - 11:15:36 AM »
Hi all,
I am restoring a 70 barracuda, into a 71 340 shaker cuda.
currently drums are all around, should i change to disc?
On a stock 71 340 shaker cuda did they have drum or did they always come equipped with disc?

any help would be great
thanks

They came with both in those years.  Go with front Disc Brakes.  Find a donor car

 :iagree:
 Go for 73-74 spindles too.
Some informative reading here , if you haven't seen it already?

Personally, safety wins out on originality.  Especially because it is such a relatively simple upgrade.

Another easy option is the 73+ B and FJM brakes.  Cheaper than the A-body spindles, too.

The difference in control and stopping ability is incredible.  If you've put any kind of money into your car I can't encourage you enough to go with the disc.  My car was drum on all four and when your car starts to slide on the road from locked up brakes it can be very scary. Especially not knowing when your going to stop once the slide starts.

:wave:also ,if your barracuda has 10" drums at the rear now it will be like an oem configuration if you put discs up front.the cudas when drum braked all around had 11" all around, but when discs up front the rear drums where 10".except on ta cars,i think.
