Connecting Prop. valve to Tandem Master Cyl.
« on: October 01, 2010 - 11:40:32 AM »
I am coming to the end of my build and have a question on brakes, my 72 Challenger was purchased as a rust free rolling shell,(most of the brake lines were still in place) originally 318, 727 with power disk. To make thing more simple as this was my first muscle car, I purchased all the braking system parts new, with the exception of the brake booster. When I fitted the proportioning valve and connected the two lines to the master cylinder  the larger fitting says to OUTLET MARKED "F" the lower smaller fitting "R". It does not say in the service manual but am I to assume this means "F" front fitting on the tandem master cyl. and "R" the the rear port. At the moment they are the other way round and the brakes are cr@p.
This site has been a saviour.
Cheers,

I believe that the fittings on the master take 2 different sizes.  That being true, you can only put them in one way.  But F does mean front and r rear.  However, being a power car (not sure about manual), the rear cylinder is for the front brakes and front, rear brakes.

Thanks Jason,
The prop. valve does have different fitting sizes, but on the Master cyl. they are the same size. But just to make sure, the on the prop. valve outlet marked "F" that goes the the larger reservoir on the master cyl. and the prop. valve outlet marked "R" goes to the smaller reservoir.
Cheers,
Mike

I was thinking that they were different sizes....sorry about that.  The larger (rear) section goes to the front brakes and the smaller (front) section goes to the rear brakes.

Thanks Jason,
All looks Okay with the plumbing,I will have to look elsewhere for my issue. I can not do that until I get my new carburetor back from the manufacturer and road test it.

Good luck!  I took a look at my MC and the front line in is larger than the rear inlet.  Maybe there is a difference between 71 and 72.
