Dip Stick Placement
«

I've just fabricated a new dip stick tube for my 440 and need to know which side of the exhaust manifold it goes on. I've seen pictues with them between both the manifold and head and outside the manifold. Since I'm still looking at a straight tube I can bend it for either place. Placing it between the manifold makes it easier to remove and replace the manifold. Any opinions? PK

It's a wick for heat trying to grab ahold of the stick when you go in between. It isn't like your going to be pulling the exhaust off all the time. I would run it on the outside like most are, and brace it off the engine mount

Thanks Moparal!
Sounds like good advice and I'm definitely not planning frequent exhaust header changes. I acquired this 440 without headers and the dipstick tube was trashed so I had no idea how it is supposed to look. The dipstick it's self was good so I used 3/8" steel gas tubing to form a new tube. I shall proceed! PK
