Sand balst or sand??

Got me a 71' Challenger that i plan on turning into a full pro touring animal,, rite now its just a rolling chassi but i wanna start with a clean sheet of paper but wasent 2 sure what route 2 take?? :working:

My personal choice is to avoid blasting inside the car. Being its very hard to get media out of the inside of the car. I used Aluminum Oxide to media blast the underside at a lower rate of PSI since it cuts faster. It also recovers way better than sand for re use. So you won't need to buy as much material.

For the outside of the car, I used paint stripper. Then sanded very clean with 80 grit. Then used a metal paint prep conditioner. This insures that theres no stripper residue left behind.

Many will tell you to go plastic media, which is good too. Your choice. If the body is pretty rust free, I would just strip it as I did.

I would probably say to soda blast most of the sheet metal.  As TC mentioned, though, any blasting material will take some time to get completely cleaned out of all the hidden pockets (especially when doing the inside of the car).  Paint strippers work rather well, but then you're required to neutralize those areas to ensure it doesn't affect your paint job with any bleed-through or anything else.

We blasted when we did the trunk floor, got 2 be 2-3 years ago by now. Still find sand!  :grinyes:

I only buy solid rust free projects so my way of doing it may not work for everyone. I strip the car down to a rolling shell and use a DA with 80 grit to go to bare metal. this isn't practical under the hood and in the trunk so I use a small blaster and try to keep the sand confined.

 I'm not saying it's the fastest or easiest but it works and it produces the same results every time. if a car isn't worth my time with a DA it isn't worth my time or money.
