440 hp question

I used a 78 year 440, had it rebuilt put a small purple shaft cam and lifters in it, added a holley street dominator intake and Holley doublepumper, aluminum water pump and housing, and headers.  I am not an engine guy, had the work done.  What kind of HP would you think this is set up is producing?  Roughly, I'm just wondering. By the way it sounds great. Thanks, Danny

Not sure about comp height, but A wild guess with small cam and reg heads, 325-375 hp at the flywheel.

The 1978 440 engine was pig from the factory...(250 HP and VERY low compression, around 7.3:1)..

You never mentioned if you bored it out and installed new pistons when the rebuild was performed. If you used the "Six Pack" replacement, 4 eyebrow pistons then, the compression would be better with the open chamber heads that were on it from the factory...Therefore, the larger "Lumpy" "Purple Shaft" cam would only kill cylinder pressure even further...If it wasn't done with the "Good" pistons, then MY guess would be around 275 HP at the crank...

It is actually a 77 440 but anyway I didn't change the pistons etc.  Thanks guys, Danny

I have a 71  440 with steel crank. What would be the potential for it with a few dollars invested?

lots of potentioal , how long is a piece of string , you can spend to get a lot of performance from a 440 steel crank engine

What ever HP estimates you might come with at the flywheel, just remember, to the ground HP will be about 20% less
