resistance wire

Has anyone here actually used a strand of resistance loom wire?? instead of a ballast resistor between the coil and the ignition. I do not like the look of a ballast resistor and really do not have a neat place to put it. Somebody education me please!

In order to get to the same resistance you will need quite a bit of wire.

I would say hide the ballast is an easier solution.

That's an interesting idea, but as HP_Cuda said, it would take many feet of wire to get the 1.2 Ohm resistance of the ballast resistor. This is assuming you have a two prong ballast resistor.

GM used an inline resisitor in the wire to the coil before HEI it would need to be heavy enough to carry the load

If I am understanding this right, is the ballast simply a bunch of resistance wire coiled up inside a ceramic housing, or is resistance wire completely different. I did figure out I only need one ballast in addition to the oem ballast already there and I am comfortable with that.

the ballast is a resistor to drop 12v down to approx 7v to the coil while running , a resistor will do the same , the ballast does get very hot though
